Simple Utah Mormon Politics

A hoax is defined as "something intended to deceive or defraud". A pandemic is something that is "prevalent throughout an entire country, continent, or the whole world; epidemic over a large area". Pharmaceutical companies made enormous amounts of money by getting the World Health Organization to declare H1N1 a pandemic when it wasn't. That sounds like a hoax to me.

As speeches go, it was one of the best. As cheerleading and bully pulpiting go, it was magnificent. But I still hate State of the Union addresses. Obama was as subtly partisan as they come while blaming George W. Bush for all of our debt problems of the last decade or so, and his claim that we need to be more bipartisan was clearly aimed at Republicans.  And he lied about not having any lobbyists on his payroll.

After our government gave billions of dollars to a handful of large corporations that had committed perhaps the greatest economic fraud ever on the American people, are you surprised that our Supreme Court gave them unmitigated power over our election process?  Do you think the Supreme Court's decision will make any difference, since corporations effectively control our lives anyway?

It is clear that Robert Bennett no longer deserves to be a United States Senator from Utah.  The only choice left is which of his four Republican challengers should replace him.  When Mike Lee recently announced his candidacy for the position, I threw my initial support behind him.  After last night's Independence Caucus-sponsored debate, I am even more convinced that I made the correct choice.

Have you ever said something so "beyond the pale" in the comments of a weblog that you got banned from ever commenting again?  How about on the VERY FIRST comment you ever made on that blog?  It happened to me, perhaps because my comments were satanic. Here is my story. 

We have been taught to think of inflation as rising prices. The image at right conveys this misconception.  But rising prices and inflation are two completely different things.  Inflation is an increase in the money supply.  Generally rising prices are only a consequence of that increase.

United States presidents in centuries gone by had a healthy respect for the Constitution. Now it receives regular disdain by those who call it "living". The General Welfare clause of the Constitution was placed as a safeguard against government usurping the responsibility (and opportunity) of private individuals and organizations to care for the poor. Now, under the guise of "helping" the poor, charlatans in government, along with their lobbyist friends, have become filthy rich, while families and communities continue to die a slow death.
